Gina woke up to the sound of door bell, and in her head she’s thinking “Who the hell rings up so early in the morning?” Nevertheless, she pulled on a thin cardigan and walked out. She had bubble tea last night and couldn’t sleeo until wee hour in the morning. What makes it better? Jim’s notorious snoring, even Bob next door sometimes complains to her that he thought they never turned off some kind of raw ring machine in their room. It’s a spacious master bedroom and often very quiet.
She opened the door and to her surprise, Fanny is standing in the door way, luggage in her hand and a travel pillow sling on top of the handle.
“Fanny??? Why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be back in your home country now?”
“I came here to look for Bobby.”
“But... Bob is not around right now. He went to work.”
“Oh ok... hmm... I will come back tonight. What time does he gets back?”
“Errr, usually around 8 or 9 cos he always eats outside, you know him very well he doesn’t cook.”
“Alright then I’ll be back around then.”
Without uttering another word, she turned and stalked off to the lift, leaving Gina dumbfounded at the door way thinking to herself whether she was dreaming or sleepwalking.m
Precisely at 7.55pm, Fanny came back. Bob just barely got enough time to change to his home clothes when the door bell rang again. Having been informed by a panicking and sleepless Gina, he was well aware of what he has to do. “We have no more space left, just tell her. I know you pity her and feel bad but we really can’t. You must know what’s good for her, and that’s not sticking to you forever and not having a life of her own.”
Bob went to the door, the bell ring has ended, but it rang sadly in his sinking heart. Does he have to do this? To cut off everything with her? He’s afraid it will break her heart to the point she would suicide. He just hopes that it wouldn’t turn out so bad.

“Hi Fanny.”
“Bob...”
Fanny suddenly grew quiet after calling his name. Bob is completely lost, not knowing what to do. At that Fanny broke into sobs and leaned into his shoulder automatically. Caught in the moment, Bob awkwardly patted her on the back to soothe her down.
Once she’s in the house, with a ginger tea cup pressed into her hands by Gina, Bob finally got around to ask her some questions. Turns out her parents were so disappointed in her not getting a job in Singapore that they told her better just live outside and start to have a life of your own. She had nowhere to go and no one to turn to, so she booked a 2 - way ticket to Singapore, getting the new address of Bob’s house out of a mutual Friend (Bob silently cursed the spy) and got here the within a week. She only has 30 days to figure out what to do.
Pity rises in Bob and Gina’s throat. Gina has always been the motherly figure in the household, it pained her to see the happy go lucky Fanny like this. Fanny looked frail, and Gina was scared if she turned on the fan, Fanny will literally fly up like a kite. Her eyes were sunken in and dark around them, like smokey eyes done opposite. She looked a little like a mummy about to pass out in the living room. She wanted to take back those words said to Bob before the door was opened. She panicked when she heard sobs and ran out to pull Fanny in straight away.
“You can’t stay Fanny.”
To her surprise, Bob spoke with undeterred confidence and absolution.
“We have no space, and you have nothing to do here.”
“I can clean and cook, In can live in the living room!”
“No, you can’t. Go home Fanny.”
With that, he pulled her luggage out the door and wait for her. Fanny looked at Gina pleadingly, but she could only pass Fanny a worried and pitiful glance of helplessness.
With great reluctance, Fanny took the luggage handle off Bob’s hand, she turned around one last time "I will be back."
Bob and and Gina exchanged a quick glance after the door was closed. What was she talking about?
True enough, she came back after 24 days, living on the sofa in one of her ex-classmates house (the girl was sharing a tiny studio with her boyfriend and another couple). Having the charitable heart from the friend, she managed to latch on to a Master's program, which will buy her 2 years in Singapore. No one knows where the money came from, but as long as she can be with Bob everything is FINE.
Meanwhile, Jessica broke into a big fight with her roommate over the issue of Jessica always bringing guys back to her room. The fight ended with her roommate stomping out of the house swearing all kinds of vulgarities she could mutter and refused to come back. Eventually she moved out to stay with another friend within 3 days, and the room is conveniently empty for Fanny!
"Oh my gosh, I don't wanna stay with that auntie!"
"Shoosh Jess, how can you say that!"
"I mean, do you even look at her?" She rolled her eyes bitchily while filing her nails down perfectly one by one
"It's just for a while, and she's very quiet, she will be nice to you definitely. I have stayed with her before, she's actually quite a good roomie. You never know, maybe she can teach you some tricks about cooking that helps you hook some big fishes?" Gina teased.
At that, Jessica's eyes lighted up like Audi A4 headlights. In a single second she dreamt of the bungalow where she cooks beautiful meals for her rich husband who just came back from a trip in Paris bringing her all these branded goods in their luxe sophisticated packaging and ribbons, the smell of expensive perfume filled her head with imaginations. She blinked a few times to come back to present and decided to share the room with Fanny. This is where trouble begins...
